I recently happened to catch the movie 'the Help'.
The story is simple its about a young writer who decides to pen down stories from the point of view of the help. Naturally these are scandalous stories and stir up unpleasant reactions from the townspeople.
The movie has a clear message: Courage.
The performances are brilliant with each character being almost believable.
The movie successfully manages to stir up a multitude of emotions. Pity, sorrow, humility, anger even humor. this is probably the strong and weak point about the movie. There seems to be an attempt to create grey and honest characters however we end up with a palette of characters ranging from black to white. That is the first weak spot. Once that is established there's no turning back. With the black and white characters firmly in place the movie begins to have mood swings. Now its serious ,now its motivational and now its funny.
somehow you are not sure about who's story this movie really is,or if it is even one persons tale to tell. Its just a series of events put together and presented with no particular beginning or end.So all in all a good watch bit seems a little confused,
The best part about the movie were the performances Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Octavia Spencer,Emma Stone were really great in their roles. I have to mention Cicely Tyson and Jessica Chastain whom I found extremely brilliant with whatever little they had.
What I take away from the film is indeed courage which is its plain and simple message. Indeed an inspiring movie in its own little way.
